School Meals
Hampshire Schools Meals Service by
Hampshire County Council Catering Services (HC3S)
On behalf of schools, HC3S has ensured that the government’s School Food Regulations were adhered to, particular in relation to lunchtimes.
In addition to complying with the appropriate legislation, HC3S continues to adhere to self imposed requirements to ensure a high quality meal for Hampshire’s primary school pupils:
- Menu meets the Hyperactive Children’s Support Group’s recommendations for the removal of additives.
- The standard primary menu is nut free.
- Use higher animal welfare products to meet the Good Pig and Good Egg awards criteria.
- Use local suppliers for local products wherever possible.
Hampshire’s school meals uptake continues to increase, and we achieved an average of 53.3% for the last financial year. This reflects the part year effect of UIFSM.
The online free school meal eligibility checking service for Hampshire parents and schools continues to be available via the Free School Meal tabs on our websites (shown below). Any queries on the information or use of the system can be raised with the HC3S office.
Schools should also note that HC3S carries out Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) checks and rechecks on all catering staff in line with Hampshire County Council policy.
